Labour Councillors on the Tyne & Wear fire authority, voted today to save Wallsend fire station from closure.

Labour's candidate in Wallsend ward Matthew Thirlaway said "I am delighted that the fire authority has reversed its decision to close Wallsend fire station, This is despite the authority facing £14 million worth of cuts over 7 years which amoount to 35% of its budgetfrom the coalition government.  With the developments that Mayor Redfearn and the labour group are continually backing along the North bank of the Tyne it was crucial our heavy industries are protected with the saftey of having the fire station in the middle of the development."
